- Yeah, new features!
- refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh.. etc
- Posterous "Manage" up!
- Nothing new :-(
Maybe I should get a life.
Apple is preparing their "Let's rock!" event scheduled for September 9th. CERN is preparing their "First Beam!" event scheduled to happen September 10th....
According to many doomsday predictors, the firing up of the LHC will be The End of the World as We Know It! Well, actually, the first tests will only run at 450GeV, which is peanuts compared to the full power "beam" of 5TeV the LHC will generate by the end of 2008. After that, it will go up to 7TeV. Which is a whopping amount of energy! Some say the LHC will generate stable micro black holes which will grow after time and eat up the earth and everything on it within the timespan of a few years (others even say months since the growth will not be linear). That is of course if the LHC can actually generate (or rather activate) a micro black hole. Which should then remain stable. Which means one of the greatest minds on earth, Steven Hawking is wrong. Well, I guess we'll see. For those preparing, I can advice you to read "Death by Black Hole" by Neil deGrasse Tyson, so you can prepare for the event a black hole will become a real thread to us.
Hey, at least it's a very cool way to die! By the way, here is a nice overview on LHC milestones during the construction of the collider. And be sure to visit this site to watch the "First Beam" event live.
